Reading is Amazing! is a Brookline Village based reading/literacy tutoring service supporting students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6.
I was employed as a reading specialist for over 30 years within MA public schools. My experience and expertise included providing individualized, diagnostic reading instructions based on informal and formal reading assessments with the goal of helping your child improve his/her reading performances.
All reading tutorial lessons are facilitated by me and are based on information obtained through parent/family information, communication from school personnel (given parental permission) and are geared to the student's reading instructional need and interest levels.
Reading enrichment tutorial lessons for the child who is eager and ready to read are provided in a manner where the child can learn new words from their choice as well as high frequency sight words. In addition, sound blending tasks to decode words is part of the reading enrichment service as well as providing high interest reading books that the child will read during the lesson and then take home to read again and again to help improve reading fluency, reading comprehension and decoding skills.
For the student who has faced difficulties in learning to read, I help students by using high interest based on the student's instructional needs as well as interests. A supportive and positive learning environment is maintained.
Reading tutorial lessons for the accelerated reader who would like more challenging texts than she/he is currently reading in the classroom as well as writing activities to accompany the reading tutorial lessons.
Immediate feedback is given to parents/caretakers following each reading tutorial lesson through 1:1 conversations as well as detailed e-mails. Suggestions for reading at home is also given to parents/families.
All reading tutorial lesson are individualized. Formal reading assessments can be administered upon the parents request with a formal report written that may be shared with the school personnel.
Communication with the school staff is encouraged, but only with permission form parents/caretakers.
Reading tutorial lessons may occur in Brookline Village, in your home or in a public library.
MY goal is to share my love of reading with the students I support through reading tutoring and help all the students I instruct achieve growth in reading and literacy skills.
